Aliénor participa dans la deuxième croisade échouée avec son mari en 1147. Aliénor fut accordée l’annulation de son premier mariage avec le roi Louis VII en 1152. Peu après elle se fiança à Henry, duc de Normandie. Sous peu en 1154 il fut couronné le roi d’Angleterre sous le nom d’Henry II. She was Duchess of Aquitaine, Queen of France (1137–1152) and Queen of England (1154–1189).   After father’s death in 1137, Eleanor succeeded to the duchy of Aquitaine and to the county of Poitiers. Then she married Prince Louis, future King Louis VII. Right after her arrival to the court of France, she imposed mores and customs of Poitiers, which she saw as more refined and less bleak than Parisian ones. She introduced new food habits (such as jam), new fashion (vivid colors and low V-shaped necklines), new textiles and southern etiquette. She decided to transform Paris into a center of art and beauty. The young queen was criticized for her behavior and costumes jugged shocking. As well, the French court did not like her much because of her expensive tastes. Under her influence, women’s apparels turn out to be much more elaborate. She introduced a new trend – the bliaut, a long over garment. It became tighter around the bodice down to the hips and was worn with a decorative belt or girdle. The bodice had slits on the sides from underarm to hip with a ribbon lacing, which could tighten the fabric. The skirt was cut wide. The silk was highly embellished and heavily embroidered in costly metallic threads. Blues, greys, burgundies and earth tones were popular.  Eleanor participated in the unsuccessful Second Crusade with her husband in 1147. Eleanor was granted the annulment of the first marriage with King Louis VII in 1152. Soon she became engaged to Henry, Duke of Normandy. Shortly after, in 1154, he was crowned king of England as Henry II. As in Paris, Eleanor started to turn primitive England into an illustrious court. She introduced art, make-up, romance and poetry. Eleanor challenged tradition everywhere she went.  For supporting her son in revolt against Henry II, she was imprisoned between 1173 and 1189. When Henry II died the new king and her son, Richard I, immediately released her. As Queen Mother she took up the reins of government with first-rate skill and exercised great influence on politics till she was nearly eighty.
